Dottie West Bake/Craft/Book Sale
Our United Methodist Women (UMW) will hold the Dottie West Bake/Craft/Book Sale next Sunday, November 18th, in Bailey Hall before & after Sunday School and after the worship service. You do not have to be a member of the UMW to donate your favorite baked goods, crafts, or gently used books! For more info about our UMW, call Theresa Stanley at 912-674-0744. Reminder: It’s not too late to get your recipes in for our cookbook. A form for you to submit your favorite recipes is available on the credenza in the lobby of the church.
Community Thanksgiving Service
The annual Community Thanksgiving Service will be held on Sunday, November 18th, 6:30pm, at St. Marys First Baptist Church. Our local pastors will participate in the service. Anyone who is interested in singing in the community choir is invited to attend rehearsals on Saturday, November 17th, 10:00am, and Sunday, November 18th, 5:30pm, at First Baptist Church. An offering will be received during the service to benefit the Downtown Ministerial Association Benevolence Fund. You are also asked to bring canned goods to support the Helping Hands Food Pantry. Make plans to join us at this special time of worship as our community gathers to give thanks.
Men’s Pizza Night
Attention men of all ages: You are invited for an evening of good food, fun, and fellowship on Thursday, November 8th, 6:00pm, at Ops Pizza Kitchen and Café in Kingsland. Meet us upstairs for a $10 buffet. The invitation is not exclusive to just the men of SMUMC, so bring a neighbor, friend, or newcomer to the area.
Thursday Weekly Basketball
Everyone is invited to join us at the Lighthouse Radio Station WECC 89.3 FM every Thursday night at 6:30pm for some pick-up basketball.
Confirmation Sign-ups
Confirmation classes begin January 6, 2019, and is open to all current 6th – 12th graders. We are taking sign-ups until Sunday, December 15, 2018. Confirmation is all about our youth-age kids affirming and exploring their faith through a series of classes, retreat and a trip to Savannah to learn about John Wesley and finishes with each confirmand joining the church, if they’re ready. Sunday School Classes
Sunday School Classes are available for children, youth, and adults, beginning at 8:45am. You are invited to visit a class or two and find your place in Sunday School. A full description of all the classes is available at the Welcome Desk.
Ongoing Children’s Activities (nursery is available for all activities)
  • Sundays – Children of all ages are invited to attend one of our graded Sunday School Classes at 8:45am; Children’s Church is for children 4years – 5th grade. Children start in the sanctuary with their parents and after a short message during the worship ser- vice, are directed to 2 different classes based on age for a Bible lesson and various activities; “God Squad for 5th Graders” – 5th Graders meet for various activities just for them each Sunday at 4:00pm.
  • Wednesdays at 5:30pm – Children’s Choirs Rehearsals – “Music Time” for 3 year old – K, “Music Makers” for 1st – 3rd grades, “Young Musicians” for 4th – 6th grades.
  • Wednesdays also bring Playhouse Kids for children 3 years – 1st grade time to enjoy learning about the Bible and making new friends. There is also Clue’s Club for chil- dren in 2nd – 5th grade to spend time together “investigating” the Bible through vari- ous enrichment activities. Both activities begin at 6:15pm.
Radio Ministry
Our church is sponsoring “The Man in the Mirror” Radio Minute. It airs Monday thru Friday at 6:40am on The Lighthouse, 89.3FM. The radio minutes will offer life-changing insights from God’s word, with practical solutions for the unique issues and challenges facing men every day. We hope you will be listening!

Hanging of the Greens
We will be decorating our church & facilities for the Advent and Christmas Seasons on Saturday, November 24th, at 10:00am. Anyone willing to help decorate our Church, Chapel and Bailey Hall for the Christmas season is asked to come. We need lots of help! Pizza and drinks will be available to helpers after decorations are up. Please stop by the Welcome Desk and sign-up.
Samaritan’s Purse
The A.J. Moore adult Sunday School class has again this year purchased from Operation Christmas Child (Samaritan’s Purse) pre-printed plastic “shoeboxes” for the congregation to use for contributions to the 2018 international program. Please pick up your shoebox(es) from the church parlor or church office and follow the instructions in the Operation Christmas Child brochure or on the web- site. (The brochures are on the table next to the shoeboxes in the Parlor.) The filled shoeboxes (with your donation of $9.00 per box) must be returned to the church no later than Sunday, November 11th. Thank you for your participation.
The Methodist Home
The Christmas season is quickly approaching and the Methodist Home is asking for your help to ensure the residents are able to have gifts and stocking stuffers to open on Christmas morning. A list of suggested items is available at the Welcome Desk. An Angel Tree will soon be set up in the front of the church for you to place all unwrapped gifts under. Please drop off items no later than Wednesday, December 12th. You may also drop off items to the church office during regular hours. Thank you.
Ushers Needed

Helping Hands Food Pantry
The shelves in Helping Hands Food Pantry are especially low on all canned vegetables and fruits. You may drop off food items at the Food Pantry (103 W. Church St.) Monday – Thursday from 9:00am until 11:30am, or at the Church Office from 8:00am until 3:00pm Monday – Thursday. There is also a basket next to the Welcome Desk in the lobby of the sanctuary for you to drop items off on Sundays. Thank you for your continued support!
The Coffee Service Team Needs Your Help
Our Coffee Service Team is look- ing for one or two people willing to man the coffee service table one Sunday each month. The coffee service table is setup and ready to serve coffee at 9:30am and is taken down after the worship service. Please contact Yamy Bauers at if you are interested in helping.
